I know more schools sponsor baseball than ice hockey. However,

I was looking at stricting from the ACC's perspective of ways to increase its values closer to the Big Ten and SEC. When ESPN and ACC agreed to the current payout (including any payout for the ACCN), then it is probably safe to assume that the value included all the sports the ACC currently sponsors. It is unlikely the ACC can increase the value for its "non-revenue sports" enough for ESPN to justify giving the ACC an increase in payout. So if the ACC wants to increase the value of its sports to help close the gap, then it might have to start sponsoring a new sport. Even though there is a thriving professional water polo league in Europe, ice hockey probably gives the ACC a better chance of seeing a bump in pay.

I found this article that talks a little about TV ratings for collegiate hockey games. The numbers will never come close to basketball or football so it would be unrealistic to compare ice hockey to either sport.
